Auckland is regularly voted one of the best lifestyle cities in the world. Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, with a population over 385,000 within the city boundary and 1.2 million in the Auckland Region. The Auckland region is made up of four cities (Auckland, Manukau, North Shore and Waitakere) and three districts (Franklin, Papakura and Rodney). The Auckland Region has about one third of the population of the whole country.
Known affectionately as the City of Sails, Auckland is surrounded by the sea and has a warm temperate climate. This is a bright and energetic city with a great shopping, award winning restaurants, pulsing nightlife and friendly people. North Shore City (population 205,000) stretches up the East Coast from Devonport and Birkenhead to beyond Browns Bay. North Shore City offers an exciting mix of residential suburbs, Industrial Estates, fantastic shopping and magnificent bays and sandy beaches.
Three major geographical features dominate Waitakere City, enabling visitors to enjoy nature at its best. Features include the breathtaking Waitakere Ranges, the rugged West Coast with its thundering surf beaches, and the calm sedate waters of the inner Waitemata and Manukau Harbours. Young, vibrant and colourful, that is Manukau City. Manukau City offers many diverse attractions including markets, cultural festivals, an award-winning amusement park, the widest shopping selection in the country and a great variety of restaurants.
